SanityIsland.us - the last upgrade (for quite a while)

Dear Dose Governors and Friends,

December 3, 2006

I have completed my upgrades of the http://www.sanityisland.us image server.

In previous weeks, I moved it to a bigger server with twice the space and bandwidth. Now I have installed the latest version of the Gallery image server software.

SanityIsland.us upgraded.

Both the old and new versions of the software are available.

If you haven't already learned the old version, you can skip that step, and go directly to the new one.

For snugs (or anyone else who still wants it), the original version is still available.

For everyone else, and for snugs when she gets around to it (no hurry), the new version is nicer looking, easer to maintain, faster, more secure, and has more features.

Some month in the future, I will make the old version read-only, once no one is using it anymore to add new images. Links to these images from old Doses should continue to work "forever."

Logging into SanityIsland.us

To get to the new version:

1. Goto http://www.sanityisland.us.
2. Click on the " The New Daily Dose Galleries"
3. Click on "Login" (upper right corner)
4. Enter your Username and Password (sent by freep mail)

To add a sub-album within your top Album:

• Click on "Add Album" (in menu along left side).
• If you're posting images to publish a Dose, it's a good idea to make a separate sub-album just for that one Dose.

Adding photos

To add images to the current album you're looking at:

• Click on "Add Items" (in menu along left side).

Changing your opening Album image

I added one image to each of your top Albums that shows up on the display of "The New Daily Dose Galleries", seen in login step (2) above.

To choose a different image to display on the opening icon for your top Album:

• Add that image to your Album.
• Select "Make Highlight" on the menu "<< item actions >>" below the desired image.

If you're so inclined, feel free to change your password and your email address (for forgotten password reminders) in the "Account Settings" screen, gotten to by clicking on "Your Account" (upper right corner).

Different ways to add photos

There are several ways, that show up on tabs, to upload images. You will see them when you click on "Add Items."

You might want to at least experiment with the some of the following ways (tabs on the "Add Items" screen) to upload images:

From Web Browser:

Lets you Browse your local PC for images to upload.

From Web Page:

Directly moves image from another web site to SanityIsland. If you ever have to post a Dose from a dialup line, this could save you alot of upload time. Formerly known as the "URL" method.

From Picasa 2

Upload from Googles free photo organizer, Picasa. Check it out at: http://picasa.google.com. The instructions for uploading from Picasa are convoluted. See further Using Picasa with SanityIsland.

Gallery Remote

An application that runs on your PC and provides a feature rich set of options for uploading images.
